FAQ

where are you located?

Mint is located within Citrine Cooperative on the second floor at 812 E Dayton Suite 208. We share a building with The Shop and Purple Door on E Johnson but are only accessible on the other side on E Dayton. We are easy to miss, but thankfully there’s a big sign that says 812 on it with our co-op name Citrine, as well as Yoga Co-op right in front of the parking lot. Please don’t confuse us with the residential house to the right of us that Google Maps may take you to. We are the building tucked past the parking lot. The lot is sadly private, though there’s plenty of free street parking. Walk through the glass doors of the building, take the stairs to your left, enter through the door on the right at the top of the stairs and you’ve made it!

how come you charge hourly Or by length?

The hourly method of hairdressing is a more balanced, inclusive, and transparent way of providing and charging for services. Gender based pricing is discriminatory. Charging women more than men for the same service is a form of pink tax. It also doesn’t allow for our trans and nonbinary kin to feel comfortable or safe when choosing a service. My hourly and fixed rates have gratuity built into them, making pricing more transparent.

How much is a kids haircut?

All prices are based on an hourly or fixed rate, and not on the age of the human in the chair. If you would prefer to go to someone with a special kids cut price, I have plenty of wonderful recommendations!

why don’t you take tips?

In my opinion, tipping in this industry is outdated. When one works for themselves like I do, I should be able to charge what I need to comfortably get by without financial stressors. While a tip is always appreciated, I never expect or require one. It makes it easier at check out so you’re not having to do the mental math to figure out how much extra to pay. Now I say all this not to discourage anyone from tipping your service industry workers, you should absolutely tip them! I just choose to eliminate it, and charge a fixed price (or hourly rate for colors). If you still insist on tipping, instead you can donate to my mutual aid haircut fund here or in person at your appointment (just make sure to mention that you want to donate before I ring you up). I also appreciate nice reviews on Google or my booking site, referrals, or even just a coffee.

Are you open on the weekends?

Once in a while I may open a few weekends (and sometimes Mondays)! If you have questions about booking a weekend appointment please feel free to email me.

should i come with dirty or clean hair?

If you’re getting a haircut service, a wash is included. It is easier for me to cut hair on clean hair, as product or oil build up makes it hard to get through. When getting a color service, clean hair is best for optimal results. The color has less barrier to penetrate through. Now I don’t mean your hair has to be freshly washed day of, but rather washed recently. As always, please come with dry hair to your color appointment. Coming with wet hair adds more time onto your service, which you will be charged accordingly for.

why do you require color consults?

All new creative color and blonding color clients must fill out a color consult form, or come in for a complimentary consult. The reason for this is because we need to have a discussion about your hair color desires, budget, previous hair color history, etc. Without knowing these things it can be stressful to navigate booking, as well as budgeting needs if you have them. You can find the color consult form by clicking here.

what is a strands for trans salon?

Haircuts are historically gendered. This leaves our trans and nonbinary community feeling unwelcome, uncomfortable, and unsure if a salon is a safer space. As a Strands For Trans salon, I am contributing to bringing people of ALL gender identities together to create a more trans friendly environment. By doing so, my hope is you feel more comfortable in my chair. Visit https://www.strandsfortrans.com/ to learn more about Strands For Trans.

why do i need to put my card info in when booking?

This is done to protect me from no shows. When someone no shows their appointment I suffer an income loss. Though your card is not taken or charged until day of the service, once the service is completed. My booking website is very secure so your card info will not be able to be seen by anyone, even myself. The only time your card on file may be charged is if you are to no call no show, or cancel very last minute. Please see my cancellation policy by clicking here.

whAt should i wEar to my appOintment?

For both haircuts and color services please wear a non collared or hooded shirt. For color appointments specifically, wear something you don’t care as much about. While unlikely, sometimes product can get on clothing and stain it. I will do my absolute best to make sure this doesn’t happen (and it hasn’t in a long time!), however maybe reconsider wearing your most expensive or favorite top.

Do you prefer cash or card?

I prefer card! My card processor takes all kinds of cards as well as Afterpay (appointments over $100). If you can only pay with cash I will accept that, though I do not keep change on me so it will need to be exact.
